The Dash Poem

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From beginning to the end

He noted that first came the date of birth
And spoke of the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth

For it matters not, how much we own,
The cars, the house, the cash
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash

So think about this long and hard
And there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
That can still be rearranged

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what’s true and real
And always try to understand
The way other people feel

And be less quick to anger
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we’ve never loved before

If we treat each other with respect
And more often wear a smile
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a while

if only you had told me mum

before we had to part

just how id ever find a way

to heal my broken heart

i know that you'd have found the words

to help me understand

just how id carry on

without my dear mums guiding hand

if only you could hold me

to dry the tears i cry

then perhaps it wouldnt hurt so much

for me to say goodbye

Laney i miss you so much. I know your still around but wish i could see and talk to you. Your a fab sister and i'm so lucky that you were mine. I think about you every day and know you and dad together, i just wish it was here. You are a great friend, a fab shopping partner and always there for me. My heart is broken now you have gone and time will make it easier but never fixed.

I promise to be there for Billy, kirsty, sarah and little billy always and never let our memories of you fade away

Love you always sis

You can shed tears that mum has gone

or you can smile that mum has lived

You can close your eyes and pray

that mum will come back.

Or you can open your eyes

and see all that she left.

Your heart can be empty

because you cant see her

Or you can be full of the love you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow

And live yesterday

Or you can be happy for tomorrow

because of yesterday

You can remember her

and only that she is gone,

or you can cherish her memory

And let it live on,

You can cry and close your mind.

Be empty and turn your back

Or you can do what she wanted and smile.

Open your eyes love and go on.

You will always be the centre of our world mum.

My mum

My mum, my best friend, my guardian angel!

I miss you so much mum, i wish i could see your smiling face one more time!
I dont think its sunk in mum that your really gone, i keep wishing you'll come back home!
I wish i had more time with you, there is so much i need to talk to you about!
You were the best mum ever, and my promise to you, I promise............ i'll make you proud of me, i promise to become the person you made me, and i promise i'll look after dad!
I love you so much mum!

Dont mourn for me XX

Please don't mourn for me;
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side
each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free,
but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight--
I'm the brightest star
on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach--
I'm the warm moist sand
when you're at the beach.
I'm the colorful leaves
when autumn comes around,
And the pure white snow
that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers
of which you're so fond--
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I'm the first bright blossom
you'll see in the spring;
The first warm raindrop
that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light
when the sun starts to shine,
And you'll see
that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking
there's no one to love you,
You can talk to me
through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer
through the leaves on the trees,
And you'll feel my presence
in the soft summer breeeze.
I'm the hot salty tears
that flow when you weep
And the beautiful dreams
that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on baby's face.
Just look for me, I'm everyplace !
